The promotion effect of surface negative electrostatic field on the photogenerated charge separation of BiVO4 and its contribution to the enhanced PEC water oxidation.

چکیده
The increased surface-carried negative charge of BiVO4 after phosphate modification prolongs the photogenerated charge carrier lifetime and improves the separation by inducing the holes to transfer to the surface, leading to the obvious enhancement of visible light activities for PEC water oxidation.

Solar water oxidation using nickel-borate coupled BiVO4 photoelectrodes.
A naturally abundant nickel-borate (Ni-Bi) complex is demonstrated to successfully catalyze the photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation of BiVO4 electrodes at 1.23 VRHE with nearly 100% faradaic efficiency for oxygen evolution. Ni-Bi is electrodeposited (ED) and photodeposited (PD) for varying times on BiVO4 electrodes in the 0.1 M borate electrolyte with 1 mM Ni(2+) at pH 9.2. Surprisingly,...

D rawing inspiration from nature, photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting based on Fujishima Honda effect has been demonstrated as a feasible and cost-effective realization of an artificial analogy to photosynthesis. 7 With the goal of solar energy harvesting and storage, semiconductor photoelectrodes hold great promise to be an attractive alternative to the naturally occurring photosystems....
متن کاملA hole inversion layer at the BiVO4/Bi4V2O11 interface produces a high tunable photovoltage for water splitting
The conversion of solar energy into hydrogen fuel by splitting water into photoelectrochemical cells (PEC) is an appealing strategy to store energy and minimize the extensive use of fossil fuels. The key requirement for efficient water splitting is producing a large band bending (photovoltage) at the semiconductor to improve the separation of the photogenerated charge carriers. Therefore, an at...
متن کاملExceptional performance of photoelectrochemical water oxidation of single-crystal rutile TiO2 nanorods dependent on the hole trapping of modified chloride.
It is highly desired to effectively trap photogenerated holes for efficient photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation to evolve O2 on oxide semiconductors. Herein, it is found for the first time mainly based on the time-resolved- and atmosphere-controlled- surface photovoltage responses that the modified chloride would effectively trap photogenerated holes so as to prolong the charge lifetime ...
متن کاملEfficient solar-driven water splitting by nanocone BiVO4-perovskite tandem cells
Bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) has been widely regarded as a promising photoanode material for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting because of its low cost, its high stability against photocorrosion, and its relatively narrow band gap of 2.4 eV. However, the achieved performance of the BiVO4 photoanode remains unsatisfactory to date because its short carrier diffusion length restricts the total...
